Can't open new emails

Hi all,

I am having a problem opening up newly arrived emails.
Everytime I try and open one it just locks up Outlook. I
end the non responsive application and try again but still
the same thing. I have tried to run a virus scan (Norton
2003) but it too locks up. I then tried using Trend
Micro's online scan, but it errored out with a failed
network connection. Is this a possible infection that is
preventing me from looking at any new emails or is it
something else. Please help as soon as possible.

More information is needed. What version of outlook are
you running? Is this linked to an exchange server? How
much memory is on your cpu?
 
It is Outlook 2002, it is linked to an Exchange server but
the email address that is affected is external and uses
our ISP not Exchange. The system has 256MB of RAM.
