Help!! Lately I can't open links in Internet Explorer or in my email. It
started the other day when I saw an error message about win32, but haven't
seen the error message since. I tried to do a system restore to a date prior
to the error message, but it was unsuccessful. Another annoyance is that my
Yahoo Messenger email alert doesn't work anymore.

I defragmented my harddrive, and ran Ad-Aware to remove any spyware. I'm
stuck and frustrated!!

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hyperlinks
Open "run" and type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll click ok
then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools>Internet Options>Programs and
click on 'Reset Web Settings...' Try the hyperlinks again.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I tried your suggestion, and it didn't help. :(
When I click on a link in email or on a website, it my cursor freezes on the
"hand" for a minute or so while hovering over the email or webpage, and then
it just goes back to the "arrow" as if I hadn't tried to open the link at
all.

I can't do searches in Google or Yahoo because I can't open the links found
by the search engine.

Frustrating!

Wesley I am glad to read this post as I have had this difficulty for some
time now. I have tried many fixes including the one you just posted and it
seems that this does not take. Sometimes the link will connect other times
the same link will not. I just followed this procedure. Nothing was fixed
until I rebooted. After start up the links that did not connect now did.
Within only a few minutes I return to find the links no longer work. I can't
figure out if this started after SP2 or not but the only way I get around
this is to copy and paste. If you have any other ideas I am still looking
for a permanent fix.

I also tried the things listed in the articles you posted, and I seem to be
in the same situation as John. Occasionally a link will open (though it takes
way too long,) but most of the time, I have to paste links in the address bar.

Jan have you ever had Foxfire installed on your system by any chance? I did
and I am trying to eliminate possibilities of some applications causing
this. This may have started for me after removing Foxfire form my system

Thanks.

The dns server assigned by your isp's DHCP server, may be down...and non
cached name/ip translation is impossible. This happened yesterday for Comcast
Cable customers.

Solution:
Asign and use another DNS server:

Go to your Network Connections
Right click on your internet connection (probably first one listed)
Select Properties
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list
Click Properties
Select the option : "Use the following DNS server addresses"
Enter 4.2.2.2
Click OK
Click OK
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

If that doesnt work, go back and restore the option to "Obtain DNS server
address automatically"

Hi John,
I do have Foxfire, and have been using it as an alternative to IE since I've
been having the trouble. I haven't changed anything having to do with Foxfire
lately, and I've had it for a long time, so I wouldn't think that it has
anything to do with the problem, though at this point, nothing would surprise
me.

I hope you have success with the problem! (And then you can share the
solution with me!! ;-) Let me know if you figure something out!

Hello Jan & John,
Here's my instruction or guide for the URL I gave --- try it again.
Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools > Folder Options > File Types, then
scroll down to URL: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and click it. Click Advanced or Edit button, whatever the choice is there. Click
Edit button the Open action for this file type. The values should read as follows:

Application used to perform action:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Make line by lines change and copy the correct one below, usually #3 line has changed --- delete it, NOTHING must be written in
line #3.)

[ / ] DDE:
#1: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2: IExplore
#3: <blank>
#4: WWW_OpenURL

To exit; Click OK twice and click Close.

Now try open your links for OE and IE.

I am not sure it does not have anything to do with Foxfire. I have read of
others that are having the same problems once they installed Foxfire. I
started having them only after I installed it so I removed it but the
problem still remains. I will keep you in mind if I find a solution so if
you learn of a fix you can post back also.

Thanks.

thanks for the help Rino.
I have followed this procedure several times in the past to find there was
nothing that looked different. The problem is that there are SOME links that
open while others do not. I have not read anything about some links not
working or this happening randomly. After trying to debug I was able to get
some of the links that did not open to now open while others still do not.
All the links you supplied now do connect but this one does not

Maybe someone can see a difference between the ones you posted and this
one.

OK, forget that, I managed to change my OE settings not to reply in HTML.

OK, here is another situation. I go to the group alt.cellular.Nextel and
view a post that has several links that connect fine then the next time
(seconds later)and from that point on they do not connect. I post the same
links to this group and read my posts to see that the same links now connect
but do not in the alt.cellular.nextel group. Same links but the only
difference is they appear in a different group. The same server for both
groups. This also happens on the MS server.
Any comments or suggestions will be welcome.

John,

See if this helps...

Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK | Programs tab |
Reset Web Settings button | Click Apply | Click OK

and search pages, and prompt to make Internet Explorer your default browser.

You may also want to check:
Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser

[[Specifies whether you want Internet Explorer to remain your default

Still having the problem. Sometimes the link will open and other times not.
I will go back to copy/paste which is not that big a deal. I use Agent also
that works great but I still like OE best.

Thanks
