Can't open link in Word 2000

I have a document that has a link to an https site. The link opens in IE and
Word 2003 but NOT in Word 2k.

I get an error saying "there has been a security problem".

What can the problem be?
 
Apparently recent security updates prevent https links in Word docs from
working.
