Can't open attachments Microsoft Word or Adobe documents

I recently had some computer trouble and now Windows Mail is not working
properly. When I am in Windows Mail, I can open either a Microsoft Word
attachment or an Adobe pdf attachment exactly one time (one or the other, but
not both). Then when I get out of the document and try to re-open it or get
into another attachment, nothing happens -- I can't open anything up. If I
get completely out of Windows Mail and back into Windows Mail, I can open
exactly one attachment one time again.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Oddball problems in Windows Mail are often caused by interference
from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you
have?
