Hi,

I have some files in my D drive that just refuses to be moved, copied, or
deleted. They are large DVD image files. (.iso) I'm not getting any error
messages. It just keeps on trying to move/delete, but nothing ever happens. I
tried defragmenting, but it didn't help, either. I ran virus scan &
anti-spyware scan, but it didn't pick up anything. Any ideas of what's wrong
w/ files, and how to fix it?

Thanks

How patient are you? In other words, how long are you
giving for the files to be moved or deleted? It will not
happen in a matter of seconds but could take a little bit
of time to move 4 or 5 GB of file.

I've waited about 30 min- 1 hr. I've moved other files of similar size in
much shorter time. Also, I do not get the estimated time indicator I usually
get when file transfers take a long time.

Thanks

I waited good 30 min to 1hr. I've transfered bigger files in shorter time.
Also, I do not get the usual estimated time indicator that I get when
transferring large files.

Thanks

Have you tried to move or delete them while booted into Safe Mode?

Just my 1 cent input.

Are you moving them within the same partition or moving them to another
partition. Moving within a partition only moves the reference to the files
it doesnt actually move the file. If the file wont move at all are you
getting an error about something using the file. You won't be able to move a
file if another program is using it. If it's an iso and a file sharing
program is uploading it you wont be able to move it.

I don't know anything about partitions. I did try to delete in safe mode,
and I got rid of 1 of 3 files, but I can't get rid of the other 2. I don't
get any errors. It just keeps on running, and nothing happens.

Thanks

Hi woo - From my Blog, addy below in my Signature:

Sometimes the tools below will find files which they are unable to delete
because they are in use.

A program called Copylock, here, http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc can
aid in the process of "replacing, moving, renaming or deleting one or many
files which are currently in use (e.g. system files like comctl32.dll, or
virus/trojan files.)"

Another is Killbox, here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

A third which is a bit different but often very useful is Delete Invalid
File, here: http://www.purgeie.com/delinv.htm which handles invalid/UNC
file/folder name deleting, rather than the in use problem.

A fourth useful program is Unlocker, here:
..http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ " Simply right click the folder or file
and select Unlocker. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of
lockers will appear. Simply select the lockers and click Unlock and you are
done!" Works as advertised and is particularly helpful in identifying
malware components which are 'protecting' each other.

Thank you Jim for your help. Using Copylock, I got rid of 2 out of 3. The
third one gives me an error when I attempt to delete from windows explorer.
Can't delete the file. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I've tried 3 programs you mentioned except for unlocker. (I didn't think
unlocker was relevant here) Is there any way to get rid of this file?

Thanks
