can't maximize

Hi can you help, on clicking an external link in IE6 a new page opens
it used to open maximized, now it is always minimised I have to right
click it on the task bar and choose maximise if I left click it does
not appear. Once I have maximized it I can go back and forth between
several open pages with no problem. I have had this problem before and
have got around is by doing a system restore, I do not want to take
this option this time.

When I click on the short cut to IE6 it opens up maximised no problem,
I am only having this problem with external links.

I am using Windows XP Home

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.
