Can't make project in VS

I haven't used Visual Studio (2003) in several months. I fired it up
and tried to create a new C# class library project. Nothing happens.
Nothing appears in the Solution Explorer and nothing appears in the
directory where I told VS to make the project.

I uninstalled VS and reinstalled it. Same behavior.

I don't know what to do. Any advice?
 
I have had this problem in the past, I did the same re-installed etc..
eventually I got frustrated and did a regedit and removed all ref to VS2003.
Worked but is drastic but not as drastic as reformatting drive. Another
trick (use with caution) is re-install windows from within windows.. updates
some windows programs back to first installation but does not remove files
same as re-installing from bootup disk. Also if your disk is XP (SP1)..I
just presume you are using Xp and have installed XP (sp2) seperately will
default back to SP1. If using windows 98 is easier. My old internet company
used to get out of going through lengthy diagnosis by advising re-install
win 98 (each time, and it worked). But XP is trickier. Just some hints
although do have some elements of danger, depends how far you want to go.
Maybe someone can come up with something simpler???

I'm going to hope somebody offers something less drastic. I am using
XP with SP2.
 
Bob,
There is a lot of COM under the hood in VS.NET and it "sounds" like you have
some IDE helper DLL's that have become unregistered.
Search on COM registration to find links and re-register with Regsvr32.exe
and this may fix your problem.

Did you try using different names for the project that you are
attempting to create? Try a new project name that you are sure you
never used before and see if that works or not.

Nothing worked. I tried clearing the registry.
Installed/uninstaled/reinstalled/rebooted...

I guess all that's left is to reinstall Windows. Grrrrr...
