Can't locate my email

1. I use outlook 2000. When I open an email and after responding to it, it
disappears! Please help

2. When I had Windows 98 I could type in the first few letters of a
person's name to send messages and the rest of the name would automatically
come up. I can't do that now, any suggestions?

1 - Did you accidentally sort your Inbox folder by the icon column (which
would move replied to emails to below unreplied emails)
2 - Did you have Outlook under Win98 or Outlook Express?

Because you have your View set to "Unread Messages" instead of just
"Messages" CLick View>Current View>Messages.

In what mode is Outlook installed, IMO or CW? Help>About will tell you.
 
1 - If you use Find or Advanced Find can you located the missing items?
Might you be filtering the Inbox to only show unread items?
2 - Do you have AutoSuggest on? Check the options here: Tools menu > Options
Email > Advanced. I had though that AutoSuggest was added in OL2002 but

the MS Knowledge Base points to it being in OL2000 also.

Autosuggest as added in Outlook 2002, but Outlook 2000 had "nicknames",
stored in a ".NICK" file, that worked with autoresolution. It's been a
while, so I don't recall the details
 
That's what I seemed to remember but I found an OL2000 article that
mentioned the NK2 file. So, I figured I'd mention it :-)
