I saved a document to a floppy and when I try and open it again I get an
error message that tells me to check the file permissions for the document
or drive. When I view the document properties I only have one tab, General.
When I view another document's properties on the same floppy and I get 3
tabs, General, Custom and Summary. On either document the Archive box is
checked. What can I do to retrieve these documents from the floppy.

thanks in advance

Try draging it back to your hard drive.

Hi, Barbara. In Word, you should never save documents directly to a floppy
disk or open documents directly from a floppy disk, because doing so will
likely corrupt the file. You should save and work on the file while it is on
your hard drive, and after you have saved and closed the file in Word, you
should use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy the file to the floppy.
Similarly, copy the file from the floppy disk to your hard drive, and then
open the copy that's on your hard drive. It's probably too late for this
particular file, but hopefully you have a copy on your hard drive.

Thank you for the advice. I must have been lucky all this
time cause I havnt had much problems with this in the past
but will take your advice. Without getting too technical,
can you explain the technical dangers of what I have been
doing.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the advice I will move everything to my hard
drive just to be sure. I must have been lucky for this is
the first time I have had this problem. Without getting
too technical, can you tell me what the technical dangers
might be?

Whenever you open (or save) a document on floppy temporary files are created
in the working folder, the number and size of which cannot be
pre-determined. If Word cannot create its files, the document is corrupted
permanently.
