Help! After a system crash, I re-built everything, but now I can't get my
browser to open within Outlook. A user at the XP Newsgroup provided some dll
files to Start/Run with no luck. I've tried turning off the pop-up blocker,
re-setting my Internet security from custom to Medium, and a few other things
with no luck. Not only can't I open a link in an e-mail, but I can't even go
to Online Help. When I click a link, absolutely nothing happens that I can
see. Can anyone here provide new direction that will resolve the problem?
Help!!

Followed you over from the XP newsgroup. Generally good advice is given,
however often the most obivious or simple solution is not offered. Try the
following: Control panel>Folder options>File types - scroll down and select
"HTM" (HMTL document). Under "details for 'HTM' extensions" should be the
statement "opens with internet explorer" - if not click on "Change" and
select IE. Click on the "Advanced" option and set "open" as the default
action - click "OK" - good luck!

Thanks Al for taking the time to follow me over and to try to help. I took
the steps and found that HTM files were opening with IE, but HTML were, for
some reason, set to open with notepad. However, changing the settings didn't
work either. I may have to drop a note to the infamous Kim Komando since
it's her daily tips newsletter that made me realize that I had a problem to
begin with. If you or anyone else has any new ideas, let me know. Thanks
again. Michael

Michael - did you verify that the desired action was "open" (via advanced
option)?

I've gone through each file type to check this. After a while, I opened
several other MS Office applications, some 2003 and some 2000 versions and I
find that my browser will not open from within any of them, although the
browser itself works just fine, or I wouldn't be here. I'm beginning to
think that there may be a setting within (1) my browser, (2) common office
files or (3) that in fact, MS Spy Blocker changed something in my set-up
somehow that's caused this problem. I don't think my final answer will be
specifically within Outlook. But, you've given me some good leads and led me
down some new paths. Thanks for the help. Michael

I have this same problem - I can't open any links from outlook and it's been
this way for about a week (which coincidentally is right around the same time
I renewed my McAfee Virus Protection). I think it might have to do with the
security settings but can't figure out how to change it. Please let me know
if you figure it out.
