Hi.

I cannot upgrade to Windows XP Professional (original without SP1).

I've built a New system with the following components which has WinMe
running just fine on it:

Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939)
ASUS A8V Deluxe (NOT the A8V-e Deluxe)
Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 (two sticks for a total of 1GB)
ATI 9600XT with 256MB
Western Digital WD-2000JD SATA (200GB)
LG DVD +/- R/RW GSA-4060B
Antec 350w power supply

Ugh, it's driving me nuts. I want to use XP, but can't.

Help!

I am travelling this week, so I can't always have access to this newsgroup.
If you post a reply here, could I please impose upon you to copy it into an
email addressed to (e-mail address removed))

Thanks,
-Jim

Create a new Windows XP CD with SP2 and then begin the installation.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

With WinME running, insert the CD. You should get the XP splash screen. If
you don't, open my computer, right click on the cd drive and choose Open.
Once you get the splash screen, what happens after you click on Install?

Is the XP cd a retail or an OEM edition? You cannot upgrade with an OEM
cd.

Have you loaded the SATA driver during the text phase of the installation?
Very early in the process a message appears at the bottom of the screen
saying to hit F6 to install a third party driver. It does not last long.
After you hit F6 wait for the installer to request the manufacturer's disk
and then put it into drive A:. The diskette should have come with the
motherboard. The driver is for the controller. Be sure to remove the
diskette after the driver is read so that when the system reboots the
diskette is not in A:.
