HeyBub

Here's the steps I followed to install Vista Ultimate upgrade over XP2:

I.Go online to get latest updates...
Downloading installation updates
Cannot connect to the internet

But the underlying XP-SP2 can connect to the internet just fine via IE7

II. Enter product key
(Key entered)
think, think, think...

III. I accept the license terms - check

IV. Which type of installation do you want? [Upgrade or Custom]

"Upgrade" cannot be selected because "Upgrade has been disabled" with the
note:
"The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade, you must be running Windows XP
with SP2 or Windows Vista."

But, of course, I AM running WinXP-SP2 that has passed the WGA test.

What's up folks?

Are you starting the Vista install DVD from your desktop, that is, running
your current Operating System and the starting the installation? Or are you
installing by booting from the DVD?

I believe that you should start the installation from your XP desktop.
(Don't insert the disc until XP is running). If you can't get an internet
connection during the installation, you should still be able to install. If
saying yes to "Do you want to connect..." during the installation and that
doesn't work, go back and check no.

I know you say it "passed the WGA check" but Vista does have some protection
against upgrading non-valid "corporate" copies.

Could that be your underlying issue?

If not I apologize, but that's how you make it sound.
