Guys,

I'm trying to install an external hard disk into a windows XP desktop
through a USB port. Its a Fujitso MHT2040AT. Driver is installed and Disk
Manager says it is healthy. It appears on Windows Explorer. When I try to
format it, it spends 20 minutes doing the format, gets to 100% then gives an
error message: The format did not complete successfully. Its a brand new
disk and I doubt there's a problem with it. Any thoughts?

Thanks in anticipation,

Andrew Strickland.

Install XP cd,boot from cd,recovery,(if asked for password
press enter on keyboard),if the disk has a letter great,
if not, type:DiskPart Then type:list volume (this gets
volume new hd info to format),once obtained, type:EXIT
Back at recovery,type:FORMAT E:/FS:ntfs
E: being the new hd,ntfs the file system
When xp is thru type:EXIT
