Ben

I installed XP on a clean partition. The installation
went ok as far as I can tell. The problem that I have is
that I cannot install programs from my cd or dvd drives.
The installation goes so far then dumps me out at the
blue screen which tells me that XP has been stopped. I
have to reboot, it checks the drives, starts up and
whatever program I was attempting to install is not
there. I have been in contact with a Microsoft service
tech, but he has not been able to figure out the
problem. If I start XP in safe mode, I can copy the disk
to a temp directory and install after I reboot into XP.
I would perfer not to have to install my programs that
way though. I am running XP with service pack 1. Any
suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm not asking for clairvoyance. All of the relative
dumpfiles, error codes, and related files have been
forwarded to the Microsoft tech professional who is
working on the problem. I was just hoping that someone
may have come across the same problem. There are no
error codes give: the message simply says that "Windows
has been stopped to prevent damage to the system. Please
contact the Microsoft technical support team."
Thanks.
