I had Mandrake 9 installed on this machine.
It is an older box with a small 8.4Gb drive.

The PC will not boot to CD so I used a boot floppy. I
tried DOS 6.22, 98, ME and XP boot floppies. They all
could not remove the unknown partition types.

I used Partition magic 8 and removed all partitions.
Formatted with 98 SE boot floppy and tried to install XP.
Once the copy of setup files is done, it reboots. Once it
hits the boot sector for the HD the screen fills
with "9"'s and beep like the keyboard is being pressed.

Does this with Win2k, Win98 and WinMe. Tried all of them.
Put Mandrake back on it and works great. What has this
Virus program (Mandrake) done to my drive? :)

Try this:

Wipe the hard drive with Partition Magic again.
Boot with a Windows 98 Boot Diskette and do a FDISK /MBR
Now try to install.

Thanks!!

That's what it was. :( Thanks for the help...

No Problem. We all miss something at one time or another and then kick
ourselves when we figure out how simple it was. I've done it, you've done
it.. It sucks, but otherwise, it makes the next vicotory sweeter. heh
