I had a virus - took my computer to a repair place and
since I've got it back I can't get on to secure sites. I
have went to tools on internet explorer and made sure
that my factory defaults are correct. The repair store
told me to try to reinstall internet explorer but I can't
do that. any suggestions?

First - Why can you not do that? Inability on your part or lack of
instructions?

Secondly, if they only fixed your computer 'half-way', you may want to
request they finish what they started and what you paid for. They took it
saying they would repair it and did a half-ass job. You have certain rights
to compensation here.

You do have a current antivirus softwarer running, have checked for
spyware/adware and uninstalled unnecessary applications, right?

Lastly, before doing anything else, backup all DATA that is important to you
(documents, spreadsheets, email, contacts, web page bookmarks/favorites,
etc) and then no matter what happens, your worse case is having to reinstall
from scratch (or have the repair company do it) and then copy your stuff
back onto it.

.
go into TOOLs on you web page, internet options,
security, then set your security to low or medium,
this should make your PC accept cookies, you should then
be able to go onto the sites that you seem so eager to go
on.
good luck

I would suggest that you take a look at this article.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;813444

I would especially consider the re-registration of those
DLL files that it mentions. It always seems that the re-
registrations fixes the problem 80% of the time, and the
other 20% is fixed by removing Norton Internet Security
(if it's installed).

Hope this helps.
