I recently hooked up my new computer with Vista. (previously had windows xp)
and after trying for hours unsuccessfully, I can not get my email set up. I
think I should use POP3 and Smtp but what else should be written in the
boxes? I previously had Outlook express.

Were you able to get this resolved? I can't even find where to go to reenter
the SMPT info!

Open Windows Mail
click on Tools - Accounts - Add

keep in mind that WM can't access webmail (http) accounts.

If you have access to your previous system, this is easy to resolve. First,
disconnect it from the network.

Open Outlook Express, and go to Tools, Accounts, and Export the mail
settings to an IAF file.

Copy that IAF file to your Vista system.

In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, and Import the file.

You're done.
