I've got 3 pc's connected to a Linksys router and then to the DSL modem out
to the internet. Two pc's are wireless to the router and one is wired via an
Ethernet cable. This has been working fine for 2 years until recently. The
network connection on the wired pc stopped working completely, while the
other wireless still work fine. So I know the internet connection has no
problem at all. The problem is in this wired pc. This problem started after
downloading some software from the Microsoft site.

I've IE 6 running on XP. It can't get to any sites, including the Linksys
router.
The "ipconfig/all" shows no IP address assignment for this PC. IP address
is assigned via DHCP, so its understandable since it can't connects to the
router. When I tried pinging, it got nothing.

The symptom seems to suggest it could be the NIC card, TCP/IP config, or
cable?
I've run SpyBot, Adware, MS AntiSpyWare. Have also verified no proxy is
enabled in the IE6/Tool/Internet Connection/LAN settings.

Any suggestions?
thanks.

Any idea what software you downloaded from Microsoft? Maybe network card
drivers?

Check for LSP / Winsock corruption, then reset TCP/IP.
