I have 2 wireless computers that I cannot get to fileshare no matter what I
do. I keep using the network setup wizard but no network disk because I don't
have any media. The computers can't see each other at all. I am no pro at
this and know very little, however, I did get them to communicate once awhile
ago. After adding a third, I lost everything, but the third can be left out
this time b/c it doesn't really matter.

Setting Networking in Windows XP
Open Control Panel\Network Connections\New Connection Wizard
Select "Setup a Home or Small Office Network".
Click LAN or High Speed Connection, and follow the wizard.

Files and Print Sharing For Microsoft Network
Dial-Up Adapter
TCP/IP
and add above protocols.

Setting Shares in Windows XP
Open Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Local Security Policy\
Account Policies\Password Policy, and double click to change:
Enforce Password History to 0.
Maximum Password Age to 0
Minimum Password Age to 0
Minimum Password Length to 3 Characters.
Password must meet complexity, Disable.
Store Password using reversible.. Disable.

Click Start\Programs\Windows Explorer
Some computers click Start\Programs\Accessories\Windows Explorer.
Right click drive or folder to be shared and select"Sharing" from the
context menu. Select "Share This folder", name the share
Select "Permissions"and click OK. A hand will appear on the
share directory, meaning sharing has been set.

I don't really understand that step, sorry.

Right click you network connection
in Control Panel\Network Connections and select properties.

By default they all should be there in Win XP.

do I repeat these steps on the other computer
that is to share with this one?

To test it, click Tools\Map Network drive in
Windows Explorer, and type
\\ComputerName\Share or click the Browse
button. Hopefully the network computer will
show under Microsoft Windows Network\Workgroup

Ok, I'm really getting somewhere here. I checked the 'map network drive'
thing and found they were both showing each other. The only thing is that
their shared files aren't showing up in 'my network places'.

Scratch that! I got it, by going in and adding the network places in the
mapped drive. It takes a second for this computer to access that one but at
least they're showing up.
