Using XP

Need access to the new MS Securit Tools just downloaded.

I cannot find a link to start the new security tools that I just downloaded.

How does one do that?

TIA Dennis

If you are referring to the program that is included with the security
updates it is run once and deleted. You can download a copy to keep from the
microsoft download area or just let it run once a month from the updates.

Hi

I assume you mean KB890830, the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool.

When using Windows Updates or Automatic Updates, it will automatically
run and you will not get any feedback whatsoever, it runs in quiet mode
and then it just deletes itself.

After it is finished, it writes the result to a log file.

To see the log file, run the following command from Start/Run:

notepad %windir%\Debug\Mrt.log

More info about KB890830 here:

Dennis, I am having the SAME problem, was your problem ever solved?
I read the answers from your post, none of them seemed that helpful in my
opinion... Can you let me know how you got yours resolved?
And How does it do that? --A very good question.
Thanks, Char in Northern CA

If this is the same 'tool as the above thread, then it is the same answer.
Type MRT.EXE in your "Run" dialog box to execute the Microsoft Malicious
Software Removal Tool - KB89083 How many posts about the same problem do
you need. At least wait for an answer from the first. And, if you don't
believe me about this type KB89083 into your google engine!

Well why does [she] mention him then? Do you know this person, has she
posted here before?

Because he/she is using a web interface that 1) serves as a [kludgey]
gateway to these Usenent groups and 2) it keeps old OLD copies of
posts.

I looked the thread up on Google Groups (which goes back about 15
years) so that's how I knew that the thread had died in February of
2005.

What is "above thread" to you might well NOT be "above" to most of the
other folks.

If you've got your news reader set to display posts 'by date' then yes -
it's directly above! Is it directly above in YOUR news reader? If it is -
WHAT ARE YOU GOING ON ABOUT!!!??

You are assuming that I have all the old messages and threads - or
enough to have what you call the one "above".

I don't. I have my newsreader delete messages that I've read when it
collects new messages.

There. You've learned something new.

Another year or so here and you'll be up with everyone else.
