I do not understand why the fonts "dear Joe" and "dear Joe four" which were
freeware and I've used for over a year, do not work anymore. When I open the
font from the font folder it
is empty. I just used them both last week and they worked. My font folder
has
about 300 fonts right now. I went to the Internet and re-downloaded them
from two different sites and unzipped twice and the same thing. Can someone
tell me
what may be causing this? I need them for a porject due next week.Thanks.

Hi: forgot to mention that if I add other fonts they work fine but any of
the "joes" do not, even if reinstalled from different sources.

Try these threads and articles:

- "Download and install TweakUI for Windows XP.
www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp. Go to the
Repair section and repair the Fonts folder.

If this method doesn't work, create a new folder on your hard drive
called FontsTemp. Then go to the Windows\Fonts folder and copy the
font files, one at a time, to the FontsTemp folder. After you've
created a copy, delete the original file. Try opening the Fonts folder
again. Once you can open the folder successfully, you've found the
problem file. Just to be sure, put the "copied" Fonts back one at a time.

Thanks Doug for your suggestions. I tried the TweaUI option and that did not
work.
Before I try the second option I have some questions: What do you mean when
you say
"Once you can open the folder successfully, you've found the problem", how
will I know
what the problem is that way?

I forgot to mention that the symbols (or icon) for these fonts show up in
the Windows Fonts folder and in he applications I use. The Fonts folder
seems to work fine as I can install and uninstall any font, except those two
that seem to be installed but when I click on their icon and the folder
opens it is empty. And what is peculiar to me is that no matter how many
times I download these freeware fonts from reputable sites, they open just
fine while sitting on my desktop but the mommen I install them, they go
blank. Why would that be when all other fonts are OK and these open
(sometimes) elsewhere. Are they "programmed" to self destruct after a time
by the designer?

Chuckling..it was Joe who made the suggestions to Joan. He quoted a post by
Doug Knox. Maybe it's another of those "Joe font" problems. :-)

Doug was referring to a different situation where a damaged font was
causing the folder to not open, crash, etc.. I included his discussion
from the other thread. So that part won't help you, I guess.
