Hi

We are switching our Novell Netware network over to a Microsoft Network by adding a win server 2003 DC
I've got the server up and running with AD installed
All Client computers run Win Xp

Here is what I want to do but so far I haven't been succesful (I know this is going to be a long read so my many thanks in advance)

1. On the client workstations, I want the users to be able to choose whatever theme, wallpaper, toolbars etc that they want
2. I want them to have whatever their current app settings and window setup they each currently have (they of course have local profile
right now but we'll be moving them to roaming
3. However, I would like them not to be able to install whatever program that they please
4. Currently - our CAD users are in the local Power User group our else they can't run the program
However, when I log on as one of them (during testing), CAD still runs but thier desktop, menus, quick launch ar
all blank or grey. I don't want to have everyone wasting time reconfiguring (if the OS even lets them) but as Admins (local) they get all of there settings and pretty colors
5. The problem with Power Users is that currently on the Novell network, Wordperfect runs fine for power user
but when logged into the Win Domain, Wordperfect refuses to start. If I place them in the Local Admin group, of course the app runs as it shoul
but I would rather not place everyone in the local Admin group if that means they can do whatever they want to thier local machine

I guess I could sum up like this: I want everyone to have the look and feel that they're used to (pretty colors, quick launch links, menu and menu items, etc) tha
the local Admin group gives them without the ability to install any programs or to make changes to things like network settings

P.S. The Wordperfect issue of not starting is critical. Users have to be able to use this program uneffected from the moment we roll the new network out

Thanks, Thanks Thanks

Sounds like a profile issue. When you log on to the new
domain, you are effectively logging on as a new user, no
power user, etc.; just a normal user. You could make
the "new user" accounts members of the power users
group. Have you tried to copy the profile of the "old"
user into the new users stuff?
