After when I hit R in windows XP setup menu I will be prompted to
select the windows installtion drive, in this case 1.
But after I write 1 and hit enter I don't get nowhere. It should
prompt for the admin password. Any suggestion?
As another choice I try to not hit R instead I go for the installtion.
But still I get freezed, now when it search for installed windows
versions.

Please HELP!

Recovery Console Won't Run

Google searching for help, found this thread which described exactly what's occurring on my WinXP Home PC after attempting to install a wireless network card.

The original post appears to have drawn no response. Hopefully someone has a fix for this problem.

Comment: Microsoft made it reasonably easy to recover from O/S-related problems in WinME but with XP if you get a Registry problem or, as on my PC, a missing "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" that resulted from simply installing a new hardware device, you're stuffed or have to go through an incredibly protracted process to fix it. Note - thanks to shortsighted recovery programming you cannot use the "Last Known Good Configuration" option where this file is missing or corrupt. Have you seen the fix described on the Microsoft Site? Blimey!

To the Microsoft Windows prgrammers I say for goodness sake what about releasing an automated utility we frustrated Windows users can rely on to fix this kind of error with relative ease. Please, show some level of responsibility/accountability to your end users through proactive problem fixing! Having a programming background myself, I'm saying how great it would be simply to put in a bootable CD and select a menu option to fix this kind of problem.
