"Can't Enter Password on Welcome Screen" issue. Antyhing New?

Hello

For quite a while I've been experiencing the infamous Welcome Screen issue that
prevents one from entering the password

Recently I reinstalled my XP and ran into the same problem again after
downloading latest updates. The problem has been widely reported since fall 2006
but I don't seem to able to find anything conclusive on the Web as to what's
causing it and how it can be solved. Maybe someone here knows if there's any
progress in this area?

Nope, we have had it reported here but no definite solutions, AFAIK.
 
There is a way around it. Hit ALT CTRL DELETE twice and enter your name and
password manually.
