I updated my computer and could no longer receive my e-mail. "Error number
0x800CCC0E". I uninstalled the update and even restored to before I updated
and nothing works. Don't know what to try next. Any suggestions?

We can seldom do much with just a small fragment of the error
message. Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste
the whole thing into a reply here.

I kept checking other answers and figured out I needed to click off "This
server requires a secure connection" It took three days but I'm back up and
running.
Thanks anyway

I am having the same problem and received the same error and I'm not sure
what you mean by click off "This server requires a secure connection." Where
would I find that? Thanks!

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'July 25th', Account:
'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

It looks like you need one of the changes Comcast has started
requiring for some of its users, but hasn't been good at telling
these users about in advance:

<http://help.comcast.net/content/faq...l-for-Vista-to-use-port-587-for-sending-email>

I have had the same problem for 4 or 5 days now. Same error code [but it
doesn't come up now so can't copy/paste it here]. I can recieve e-mails but
can't send any. My desk top is fine, only my laptop has this problem! I tried
a couple of things mentioned above but no luck. Please help!! Cheers..

On the laptop, click on the Outbox, then either move any messages you
find there to the Drafts folder or delete them. If any refuse to do either,
download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version of
Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.

Some antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or
McAfee, tend to cause stuck messages and other problems in
Windows Mail, although seldom immediately. A recent version
of the Trend antivirus program also causes problems in Windows
Mail. What if any antivirus programs do you have, and have you
ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer,
even one of the trial versions that often come already installed on
new computers?

Try sending yourself a short message, and see if this creates any
error message to show us.

Thanks Robert, this is the error message [or most of it];

The "Port: 0" part of your error message definitely indicates interference
from an antivirus. I suggest you do a trial uninstall of your antivirus, then
try Windows Mail again. If there still is an error message, share it with us.

I use bitdefender anti-virus. Should I still try the hotfix thing you mentioned? Thanks again...

You're welcome.

Thank You! I have been chasing this for hours.

This needs to go to the top of the list. I can't believe this is occuring.

However, your advice of getting rid of or doing a uninstall/reinstall of my
current anti-virus program is an utterly unacceptable answer. UTTERLY
UNACCEPTABLE. You are telling us to not use McAfee, Norton and Trend??!!
Those are major players. That's rediculous!

It's your choice.
Keep your beloved antivirus and live with the problem, or switch to
a free antivirus and be trouble-free.

Norton is the most worthless, overblown piece of hypeware ever unleashed
on the general public. McAfee is second. Trend has had problems since an
update a while ago. As someone already said, keep them = keep the problems.
