Synapse Syndrome

Sometimes when I click a link to download a zip file I just get to a blank
page with the 'missing graphic icon' in the top left corner. So I have to
go back and try right clicking the link again and selecting 'save as'.

But if the page uses javascript this won't work. So how do I get back to
the normal state of affairs?

Cheers

Here's the fix, courtesy of Alan Edwards, MVP:

If it is only .zip files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.zip

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
(QuickTime by the looks of it and if so, I believe they have a fix)
The key does not normally exist.

Go to IE tools > pop up blocker > pop up blocker settings > check 'show
information bar...." look at your filterlevel. Read the pop-up blocker faq,
thou saucy, paper-faced foot-licker.
B.t.w. How is Kevin, these days? Did you stitch up that ****er?

And what the hell has that got to do with anything?

How predictable...

Thanks a lot. That seems to have done the trick. In my case it was a
program called ZipMagic that installed that key.

Do you know the fix for .PDF files doing the same thing. ie.showing the
missing graphic icon rather than opening in Acrobat Reader or in Acrobat
within IE??

Two possible fixes.

1. The same ax the .zip fix, but for .pdf

2. Uninstall all versions of Acrobat and re-install from the Adobe Web
site.

Thanks again..

:-? with "anything" you mean your lack of skills to configure windows, of
course? almost anybody in this group can download a zip file except you.

So you admit that you thought about stitching up your butt buddy, nice!! get
the job done!
