get it rid of it? I found it in a program file and tried
to remove the file but I got the same thing. I tried to
manually remove it and I even tried to send it to a
disk. How do I find where it is being used and why? I

Hi

First of all, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Newdot software (if it is listed) - then use either/both of the following programs to get rid of the rest of that spyware:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://security.kolla.de

Manually editing the Registry isn't normally needed. If a manual edit of the Registry is needed at any time there is a small program called ERunt that will allow you to backup/restore the Registry:

http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/

This WILL NOT HELP the situation. Following August's directions will
result in lost network access.

Nice post. I always go to Spywareinfo if I have any doubt about spyware
and your link to spywareinfo was helpful.

I had a similar problem with some spyware
(iGator/trickler...exe) that Add/Remove wouldn't affect.
With some help from the McAfee techies, succeeded in
deleting the file by restarting XP in Safe mode.
