I just set up a local printer on xp pro system, and the printer is actually
on the network. I manually configured the ip address of the printer. I could
not print to the printer and deleted the printer. From printers and faxes,
right click, pick server properties, I am trying to delete the ports, (ip
addresses). System tells me the ports are in use. Any ideas?

Ive done a ton of this stuff at my job here, windows can be a real pain with
network printer configuration. Luckily XP makes it a bit easier than win9x.
Here is what i would suggest:
First off, go to "Printers and Faxes". When you are in that screen, make
sure you have at least one printer there so that you can right click on it
and go to properties. So once you are in the properties window, click the
Ports tab and change the port of the printer to LPT1 and hit apply. Now try
and delete the port you dont want. If this doesnt work, try booting into
safe mode and do it from there.
Let me know if this works.
