Can't delete inbox

Can't delete messages from my inbox. A copy of the deleted mail is in the
deleted folder but the originals are really beginning to pile up! Thanks for
any help/suggestions.

What version of Outlook? How are you deleting them; by pressing the
Delete key on your keyboard or clicking the toolbar button or ?
