My wife and I each have an XP log on for the same computer. We need to recover disk space from our C drive as it is down to 200M. We copied the Documents and setting files to D but cannot delete them from C as XP says they are shared. I think I may need to somehow repoint MS Office and XP to the D drive before I can delete what I want. Appreciate any help you can give me regarding this.

Thank you

Paul

You can't move the entire documents and settings folders. A better plan -
delete the destination folder you created when you made the copy.
Right-click on My Documents, and click on Move. Move it to the D drive. Do
the same for each of your logins. That should help a lot. Also might want to
run disk cleanup - and perhaps move your pagefile to your D drive.

.....I should have said, you can't just move "Documents and Settings" in
Explorer and expect things to work...I still think moving My Documents will
do enough for you.

still trying to clean up space on c. Did as you suggested re: opening in safe mode and deleting certain files in D. Problem is that there is no 'move' statement for me to move my documents to the D drive so I am still stuck. I can't 'cut' the file either. Any ideas? Paul

Try the My Documents icon on the desktop. If you don't see it, right click
on your desktop, go to properties, desktop, customize desktop, and tick all
the boxes. Then right click on the My Documents icon, to to properties, and
you should see Move.
