Hello...

I have a Windows media audio/video file that will not
delete. Says it's being used by another person or
program...close and re-try???

Also, when I select "open" to view a file, media player
always plays some promo BS instead of the file I chose?
(MediaPlayer for XP v8.0)

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Gib

Delete it from safe mode, if that will not work right
down its address and delete it in DOS

WMP maintains the file in a list of "Recently Played Files" that has to be cleared to release WMP's hold on the files! Go to the "File" menu, then to "Recent File List" and you will see them. To clear the list go to the "Tools/Options" menu, click on the "Privacy" tab, at bottom of box click on "Clear History" button. While in this menu clear the checkmark from box marked "Save file and URL history in the Player" to prevent this problem in the future

The problem you have with a "BS" file opening may be related to your privacy settings. In same "Tools/Options" menu click on the "Security" tab and make sure there are not any checkmarks in the two choices listed under "Content"; unknown Spyware & some virus programs can cause a script to run which can cause a certain file to play
