I've been doing some video editing and a 800 meg file has somehow got itself
locked open. This means I can't rename or delete it. I've tried the usual
reboot, but nothing.

Can someone tell me how to manually unlock this file so I can delete it??

Have you tried opening a dos window, navigating to the file (not too
difficult unless the file's well buried with long sub-directory names!) and
using a dos command to zap the file?

Be sure to kill explorer first. So do this: Go Start-Run-cmd-ok. Now
control+alt+delete. Click on Processes tab and select explorer.exe. Now
in the DOS prompt, navigate to the file and delete it. Then restart
explorer by going file-new task-explorer.exe in Task Manager.

Courtesy of Kelly:-
"Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
(To re-enable it: regsvr32 shmedia.dll)
And/or run this edit, then try to delete it.

If the file is "locked" (as one of mine was recently), there's a program
called LOCK FOLDER which also works on files, I found it quite by accident
on CNET site as a freeware download. Hope this helps :)
