Ok... I am unable to delete files or right-click files on my hard drives.
I can drag files to the Recycle Bin and delete them from there, but deleting
the file by pressing the Delete key or right-clicking the file does not work.
I've read a few threads about people who are unable to delete files or
elicit a response when they right-click files. Here are my unsuccessful
results from following the varied methods.
1. I have tried turning off Dr Watson by removing the key from the
registry, which did nothing. When I try to delete a file after Dr Watson is
turned off, it gives me the following error.
explorere.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x038844db" referenced memory at "0x00000000". THe
memory could not be "written". Click OK to terminate the program.
2. I tried the Check Disk function twice, and it ran flawlessly with no
errors each time.
3. I have Norton Antivirus with the most recent updates and I have removed
all viruses from my computer.
4. I have SpyBot Search & Destroy and Adaware SE and have run both of them
with no adware or spyware on my machine, as far as those programs could
detect.
5. I read the suggestions at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_d.htm#del
I do NOT want a work-around. My system worked well last week. I am not
looking for a temporary fix.
6. I also read the suggestion at
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/slowrightclick.htm , but similar to Item 5, I
do not believe this is the problem.
I have not tried a system restore, but I believe I might try that after
writing this post.
Any other ideas???
