I dont understand why my computer wont let me delate a file. Its an avi
file(dvd rip) and the comp tells me that it may be used by another person or
program but it is not being used by anything. What is the problem? I have
never seen this happen before. The file does not play either and my windows
media player cannot sort through my files because it stops moving through
them when it reaches this file. I would appreciate some help as I am stumped.

Delete Stubborn AVI Files:

or

Open Task Manager end task "explorer.exe", attempt to delete the file now.
Or delete the file in Safe Mode. If this does not help, Use process explorer
(www.sysinternals.com) to see which process has locked that file. For
additional help on deleting stubborn files and folders, see this page for
several different approaches:

Possible answer = start up in safe mode then delete, else start up in safe
mode with command promp, find file and delete

This utility works for me. It puts a delete on boot in the right click menu.
It will delete a file before XP has a chance to lock it in place.

Using at least one appendage, the entity known in this space-time continuum
It will delete a file before XP has a chance to lock it in place.

Haven't used this particular tool but, if it's like others I HAVE used,
then if the filename has spaces in it dont forget to use DOS format
filename

eg "File Name.Etc" as "FileNa~1.Etc"
