when attempting to defrag in windows XP home edition, the
defrag runs its course and then gives the message
that "some of the files cannot be defragmented. This
turns out to be a large number of files. Repeat defrag
attempts do not help and the knowledge base article re:
defraging windows xp home does not help
( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;305781&Product=winxp )

Can you help? Thanks

A better wording of that message might be: Some files were not defragmented
because they cannot be defragmented, or don't really need to be
defragmented.

XP has a weak version of Diskkeeper defrager. Takes
several defrags to get things in order and what is left
is either not able to be or XP defragger is just not
strong enough to get the job done. I've run both the full
version and lite version of Diskkeeper. The full version
does a lot better job in my opinion of defraging XP. You
get the full version at www.diskeeper.com
