I use Office 2003 and have 4 computers on a simple Hime Lan. I want to copy
the outlook.pst file from my main computer to the hard-drive of an older
computer that my wife uses.

To do so, I select (in Windows Explorer) the outlook.pst from the
appropriate directory on my master computer, and then go to the appropriate
directory on her computer. Finally, I press Ctrl. V to paste the
outlook.pst file to her computer. When I do this, I get an error message
saying that it cannot copy "outlook" because it is being modified or used by
another user. This even happens when I have Outlook closed on both
computers.

Can someone tell me how to correct this problem?

Thank you.

did you go to task mgr to be sure outlook wasn't running in the backgrouund?
that would be my first stop.

Thank you. As it turned out. OL on my computer was not running. However,
on her computer (Win ME and OL 2000) it was running in the background. You
were dead-on with your assessment. Thanks again.

However, that is a great deal of trouble to do all that I was doing PLUS
going into the other room and running Task Mgr (several times as it turned
out) to get OL fully unloaded and then back to my computer to copy the file
over.

Do you have any suggestions of more efficient ways to accomplish my
objective - to keep her computer (found on the Lan) up-to-date with the
contacts (and preferably the email messgaes) found in my outlook.pst?

Thank you again for your help.
Bob

Take a look here, it may help:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm

If you are on a LAN, you might also want to set the Outlook.pst file on a
common shared drive and only access Outlook from one computer at a time.
