I run XP Pro. I use Norton (Symantec) GHOST to make backup images
of my system drive, which is FAT32. I place the images on a drive
which is ntfs. GHOST, when it makes the image, runs in DOS, booted
from the Symantec Norton System Works CD. GHOST, even though
running in DOS, saves the image on the ntfs drive.
Running XP Pro, I can read and use the image file locally with no
problem. From the computer where the image resides, I can copy
the image file over my NetBEUI LAN to another computer. However,
I cannot initiate the copy from the destination computer. I get
an error message "Error Copying File or Folder. Cannot copy
(filename); Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or
write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
At the computer where the file resides, if I move the file from
its directory to another directory (or the root directory) I can
then copy the file by initiating the copy from the destination
computer. In fact, if I move the file out of its directory to the
root directory and then move it back where it started, I can
initiate the copy from the destination computer as expected.
Symantec says "...this problem strictly involves some permissions
related condition in your environment and does not involve Ghost
in any way. Ghost does not set or change file/share permissions.
At this point, you may want to contact Microsoft to sort this
issue out."
I have two computers running XP Pro with the same basic setup,
i.e. a FAT32 system (C
drive and a ntfs drive where I store
GHOST images. The problem is exactly the same on both computers.
I would like to be able to initiate the copy of the file from
the intended destination computer. Any suggestions or thoughts
will be most appreciated.
