I have 2 PC's on a ethernet crossover connection. The more Powerful PC runs XP Home and the 'client' or slave PC runs XP Pro. The XP PC connects via Dial up and the client PC connects thru it OK and they both can see each other fine. The were connected via the Network Setup wizard on floppy. The problem is if I try to transfer files any bigger than a meg my XP home PC pops up on the Lan connection icon and says "A network cable is uplugged" then right after "A network cable is now connected" and the transfer stops saying the "Network name is no longer available" - smaller files are OK. I've updated Network card drivers reinstalled windows on the Home PC and even disabled firewalls. Would it be better to set up netword manually and not with the Netword wizard maybe? - please help!

Sounds like a bad network card. Can you try a new card in one computer, then
the other.

I had a similar problem. Transfer of files larger than 2 MB always failed.
One network card was faulty.

Yea that was pretty much my last resort. I thought also a bad crossover
cable or maybe a loose network card. But I thought I'd try the easier
options first. Everthing worked fine untill I reinstalled XP on the Packard
Bell from the recovery disk. I guess I've strayed away form some factory
settings.
