Can't connect

Jim

Ever since I erased my hard drive and reinstalled Windows
XP, I haven't been able to use AOL messenger, Yahoo
Messenger or MSN messenger.

When I type in my ID and password, I get an error message
saying they are unable to connect to the internet.

I don't have a firewall so I don't know what the problem
is. When I still had Windows 98, I didn't have a problem
at all.

Can anyone help?

You didn't say if you connected to the internet via a
cable modem or a modem. If you have a cable modem check to
make sure that when you reinstalled windows that it
installed a driver for your network card. If not install
that, next you might want to unplug your cable modem for a
few minutes then plug it back in to reset it. Also check
your settings on the network card to make sure they are
set properly.

If you have a modem to connect to the internet you'll
probably need to install the drivers for it as windows
usually doesn't install them by default.

I have DSL.

It's kind of weird because the computer is always on and
connected to the internet but I can't get the messenger
services to work.

Would that still be a driver problem?

Thanks for your help.
