Hi,

I am having a problem connecting to the internet. The ADSL modem, cables
and NIC all were tested and work just fine. It has to be the OS.

I can not connect using a browser or for example, an update for an
Anti-Virus product.

I think this may be a virus? Any other suggestions that I can try?

Thanks heaps

I sense that your virus files are damaged, had such an experience.
Uninstall antivirus, along with all its files using SEARCH.
Re install.
If not use XP CD using repair option.

Hope it shall work.
Regards.

PS: I apologize about my poor English & remember am no MS support just a
newbie!

For diagnosing Broadband connectivity:
**Assumes single access device - not Modem and separate Router
Process is different for that hardware setup.

1.) Login to Modem/Router and check Status page, that connection
to ISP is established - will show IP,Gateway,DNS server mappings
Check your documentation for the IP Address of the access device.
Visually check the front panel LEDs for blinking on either Activity,
DSL and Ethernet.
2.) Open a Command Prompt - (Type) IPConfig - ensure IP address
does not start with 169. (This is a AutoConfigure IP). The Gateway
and DNS server should be the IP address of the Modem/Router
3.) IP should be something in the style of 192.168.x.x
4.) If IP seems correct - then Ping the router, if that works then you
have
connectivity from PC-NIC to Router. Then Ping a WAN (Internet)
site that accepts PING traffic (such as DSLReports.Com)
If the site responds with 0% loss of data, then the PC is properly
connected on-line and the issue resides with settings on the
computer.
