Can't connect to the internet after installing SP2

I've recently installed SP2 and since then I can't connect to the internet.
When I try, I get a balloon message saying "limited or no connectivity" and
an error icon appears on my taskbar. There's an option to repair, but this
never works. The strange thing is, if I connect my computer through my
Linksys router (BEFSX41) I can access the internet, but a direct connection
from my cable modem to my computer doesn't work. I've done my research and it
seems a lot of people are experiencing a similar issue after installing SP2.
I'm not sure how to correct this problem so any help would be greatly
appreciated, thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for the help, but my router isn't causing the problem. A matter of
fact, the only way I could connect to the internet is through it. The problem
occurs when I disconnect the router and try to connect directly from my cable
modem.
