Can't connect to home FTP server from work

Good day.

I have Serv-U FTP 4 running at home behind a router with ports 20 & 21
opened via UPNP.
I am trying to connect to it from work via our LAN.

The initial connection is made, but a directory listing ends up timing out.

Some of my colleagues can connect to it without an issue.

We are all running Windows 2000 SP3.

I have tried even using straight port-forwarding (rather than UPNP) on my
router to no avail.

On my work machine, I have tried setting 'Passive FTP for compat' via
IE|Internet Options|Advanced|Browsing and then tried again without the
setting to no avail.

Being that others can connect to it I am left scratching my head as to what
setting on my machine is preventing the connection.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure the answer lies in the lof files of yoru FTP server. I think it
woudl be wise to standardise yoru client settings with those of the people
who can access yoru FTP. I do not suggest using iexplorer to connect. Use
something simple and straightforwward such as wsftp. As you attempt to
connect watch to see during what step it times out.
 
you need to port forward.
read up on the issues of running a ftp behind a nat firewall

I am port forwarding on my router...I have tried just port forwarding, UPNP

I can't see how the problem can be on my FTP side (i.e. router, server)
since my colleagues can connect to it fine - does that not imply that my
settings (router/ftp server) are fine?

I have tried more than just IE as well (even though my colleagues can
connect via IE fine).

For example, below is the transcript from a shell FTP attempt via win2K:

At first glance it appears as though the data port is failing but the
control port is open. But this cannot be the case as my colleagues (behind
the same router/firewall that I am here at work) can connect fine.

Suggestions?

I am assuming that everything works properly if you put the ftp box in a dmz, correct?

Haven't tried that yet as I don't want to open up everything on the box,
just the FTP required ports.
But why would making the FTP server the DMZ host seem to fix the problem
with my connection while my colleagues can connect fine from their machines?
