I have a user who somehow attempted to open another users mailbox via
File, Open... The mailbox shows up in his folder list but can't access
anything because he has no permissions (never had permissions).

Problem is, I can't close this folder. I've even tried giving him
permissions to the mailbox in question to no avail...

Is there a way to fix this?

Are you trying to remove it from control panel mail or
from outlook itself. You will probably have to remove it
from control panel.

Hope this helps.

Someone suggested going into Control Panel and removing it.
Unfortunately, the folder isn't listed in the "Open additional
mailboxes" section, yet it shows up on the folder list.

I have the same problem. The folder will not let you do anything with it and
you cannot remove it outside the application. I am currently searching my PC
for any record of this but not having much look. The folder was added to my
list when I was choosing a new form I had created.

I have sorted this out now.
I closed Outlook first of all.
I went into the registry and went into the following folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subystem\Profiles\Default Exchange Profile

From here I went down through the different subfolders and found that one of
them contained the same name as the offending mailbox. I deleted this folder.

When I restarted Outlook, it had disappeared. I have double-checked and this
registry edit hasn't affected anything else.
