Can't change the status of a folder from read only to read-write

I am trying to reinstall Norton Antivirus after upgrading to Windows XP. It
is trying to modifiy (either add or detete) files in the C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Desktop folder, but this folder is set to read
only when you right click and look at the properties. I tried to
uncheck this box and save it, but it reverts back to read only status so
Norton Antivirus won't install and the existing version, which was damaged by
the upgrade won't uninstall. I get an error that it couldn't write to this
folder. I have read the prior messages about the read only status but it
appears to be the problem here. How am I supposed to get this software to
install if I can't change this setting? I am set up as an administrator.

Note that you should always uninstall any antivirus software before doing an
OS upgrade.

The folder attribute is actually pretty meaningless. NTFS permissions are
more the issue (presuming you aren't using FAT). The folder attribute really
doesn't control anything...

I think you'll probably want to contact Symantec on this one.
