I am having problems when I try to change my home page in Internet Explorer.
The main problem I have is when my computer accesses the net it comes up with
the home page "about:blank". I tried to change it to MSN and it will not
work. When I shut down the computer after changing the home page by going to
the Tools drop down menu and inputing the new info there. The next time I
went on line the "about:blank" was back. Do I have a minor virus or has some
type of spyware taken control of this aspect or the Explorer? Anyone out
there with an idea please respond. I am getting tired or this about blank
search page as my home page. THANKS!!!!

If you have Admin rights on the machine, you should be able to open IE, goto
www.msn.com, once loaded, click on tools/internet options and then click the
"use current" button. This should set the StartPage option in the registry
to the MSN site.

Check under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main (using regedit.exe)

Look for a reg value on the right side called StartPage.

This reg value should contain the MSN start page you set. If it does not,
then you have a virus/spyware resetting this key, or you do not have the
proper permissions to edit the key, etc.

You could try manually adding http://www.msn.com to the StartPage reg value
by double clicking that reg value, deleting the about:blank entry and adding
the url you want, and then open IE to see if that value changes on the IE
load.

First, get LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
save it because you might need to repair the Winsock 2 stacks after removing
the culprit.
Then see
