can't boot up in normal mode

I attempted to download real player 7. After I rebooted, the XP screen with
the progress bar stalled. I can boot up in safe mode. I uninstalled real
player, but same results. How do I fix this?

Press F8 during Startup to access the Boot Options menu and try "Last known
good configuration." Alternatively you could try to use System Restore to go
back to an earlier state. It is accessible from 'Help and Support'.
 
I booted in safe mode and then asked it to do a system restore without any
change in the results. I will try the last known good config.
