A friend has just telephoned me for advice but I don't know so I'm hoping
someone here can shed some light on the problem. He's running XP Pro and has
just tried to install SP1. His wife asked him to do something in another
room and when he came back the screen had gone black and a cursor flashing
in the top left corner.
He left it like that for a good 20 minutes but nothing else happened so he
doesn't know if the service pack actually installed or not. Anyway, nothing
was happening so he switched the machine off at the mains and then attempted
a reboot. The BIOS does a POST and the splash screen saying WindowsXP comes
up with the blue running segments across the bottom, then the machine
reboots itself and continues in this loop ad infinitum.
I told him to hit the F8 key and choose either safe mode or last known good
config but, although he can get to that screen, NONE of the available
choices do anything and he's still stuck in this loop. Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,
