I am running XP pro on a pentium 2.4. About a week ago it started
freezing and the only way to reboot was to shut the system off and
then turn it back on and reboot. I ran Norton on it several times.
Today it finally would not reboot. I tried to run the recovery console
but it stops at "setup is loading windows." I have restarted the
attempt to run RC and once I got the message "The file ql12160l.sys is
corrupted. Press any key to continue." which I did and got the message
"Setup cancelled." I have tried getting into safe mode but it reaches
the point where the words "safe mode" are in each corner but the
screen stays black. I did a search on this file name and it is
associated with messages related to viruses and also with messages
related to scsi drives whick I do not have and have never had on this
system. So, what is going on? At this point it's lookingn like I have
to toss this hard drive, and it's brand new...Western Digital 120 gig.
