Can't Back Up Files

Having installed the XP backup utility (it appears in
the "Add/Remove Programs" list, although not anywhere on
the "Start/programs" list), each time I try to use the
Backup Wizard to backup the "my documents" files to a
rewritable CD in the E drive, I get the following
message: "The backup file name could not be
used 'E:\82003.' Please ensure it is a valid path and
that you have sufficient access."

I'm at a loss.

With the *basic* backup utility provided by XP, you can't write directly
to a CD. You need to save to hard disk. You can then move the backup
file to a CD using your CD writing software.

There are more sophisticate backup programs available on the market.

Why not read the posts before you respond and make yourself
sound like an idiot? The OP said he wanted to back up "My
Documents" and the odds are good that what he wants to do
will fit on a single CD. Rob's answer, which was acccurate
in every respect, said that a backup file could be saved to
the HD then burned to *a* CD. Any idiot (well almost any
idiot, apparently) should realize that you can't put 10
pounds of files in a five-pound bag.

Guilty. Didn't consider the backup of My Documents would be bigger than
would fit on 1 cd. Forgot. The OP would have discovered that, though,
on first attempt to copy the file. At the same time, need to fire up my
brain a bit to cover more bases.

To progress the real issue ... can you provide list of backup utilities
that span cd's? That was the real gist of my message to look for more
sophisticated backup programs ... but I don't have a list.

(I backup to a file server and let the server to all the backups to
other media, so don't have this problem).

Jesus. Does anyone read before posting? I was defending
your response; it was the "reverend" who had the stupid
answer.

I thought that I'd lost something somewhere or was it somewhere something.
Anyway, tak-a-tab, an it might be all wrong again.

Yes. Of course I read. And of course I saw the "defense". Thanks.
You are right. I was thinking of only one CD. Thanks for spotting.

I replied to keep the chain intack. I guess the etiquite thing was to
reply to "the reverend" directly ... but then my response is out of
context. A dilema.

What did you expect/want me to do to avoid your wrath?

ps. again, thanks for noticing and responding initially.
