Hi Folks,

I'm running into a problem that is driving me batty. I have a pst file that
I use to archive my email. The size of the file is 1.3Gb. It has been
compacted, and I believe this was originally created with Outlook97. I'm
currently using Outlook 2002. I'm trying to take this archive file and
break it up into smaller files. I've created an archive file for each year
(eg. archive2000.pst, archive2001.pst). When I try to archive the main file
to one of these other files I receive an error. When I try to manually move
or copy the email to one of these files I get the error "Can't move the
items. The item could not be moved. It was either already moved or deleted,
or access was denied". When I try to delete the email I get an error
message "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart outlook". I have been bumping my head on this for
a while now and haven't found much in the way of a solution. I have done
google searches and searched the Microsoft Website, I have found error
messages similar but the symptoms and resolutions are unrelated it seems,
geared more toward exchange or attachments or something else. Either
way, I did try some of the solutions anyway to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Rick

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against your original .PST file to see if
it finds any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and
run it. Allow the tool to make a backup copy of your file before it repairs
anything.

That's the first thing I tried (sorry, should have mentioned that) to no
avail. :((

The only other thing I can think of for you to try is to create a new mail
profile, open the .PST files in that profile and try again. That "messaging
interface error" can be caused by an awful lot of things and it's often hard
to track down the culprit.

Hi, please let me know what you find out. I just saw this today on m
manager's computer. We are at a point of upgrading to Outlook 2003
but he is traveling and I want a short term solution

The exact error for search sake.

"Can't move the items. The item could not be moved. It was eithe
already moved or deleted, or access was denied.

Thank
